Keeping up with the Joneses

Last names, like all other words, do not use apostrophes to indicate plurality. You'll see it all the time. Your Christmas cards will all have some corny picture of people you never see who are wearing matching outfits and smiling uncomfortably, and under the picture it will say "The Smith's."

The correct response to this is "The Smith's what?" because an apostrophe indicates ownership, not plurality. It's just the Smiths. Why would the rule change because it's a name? This is stupid logic.
You might ask, "What do you do when the last name ends in an S, smart ass?" Just like other words that end in an S, you add "es." Watch.

Without their star third baseman, the softball team sustained a loss.
My brilliant ability to ground out to the shortstop every time contributed to several losses.

See? You do this all the time. Want another one? Sure you do!

Brett Favre threw a pass to the guy on the other team.
Brett Favre made passes at several women after the game.

So logically you do the same thing with last names.

Andruw Jones and Chipper Jones played for the Atlanta Braves.
The Joneses were fan favorites.

Of course, the Braves personnel got around this by just calling them "The Jones Boys." I guess that works too.
